Undine Falls #1
Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming | 2024
Undine Falls on Lava Creek, dropping approximately 60 feet, is one of the gems of Yellowstone National Park. The name "Undine" (pronounced "UN-deen") was coined in 1885 by geologist Arnold Hague, inspired by German mythology where undines are water spirits tied to waterfalls, often depicted as female figures seeking mortal love to gain souls. Before that, it was called "East Gardner Falls" or "Gardiner River Falls," though it’s actually Lava Creek that feeds it. Photo © copyright by Ammon Jeffs.
